How to be an elite seller.Tip one.Let me ask you a question. Can I dump garbage in your yard?Of course not. That would be insane.Yet every day, we let people dump garbage into our minds. Here's what mind garbage sounds like:"We don't get training.""My territory sucks.""Nobody picks up the phone.""That prospect was so rude."The problem?Listen to complainers long enough, and you become a complainer too.Exposure to prolonged negativity peels away neurons in the brain's hippocampus. The part of the brain you need to think critically. In other words, too much negativity makes you dumb. The way out? Many moons ago I complained to my boss, Marilyn Quinsaat and she said something I’ll never forget:“What are you going to do about it?”That immediately stopped my whining and put my brain into problem solving mode. The next time someone dumps garbage into your brain, say this:"What are you going to do about it?""What else?"Watch how fast they stop dumping garbage into your brain. The takeaway?Don't invest your time with people who pollute your brain.

I used to waste my discovery calls.Asking questions like:"How many employees do you have?""What's your business model?""How fast are you growing year on year?"These can all be answered in preliminary research.I started doing homework prior to discovery calls. So I could ask more challenging questions:"What are your goals for the business?""Why did you choose to speak with me today?""What are your pain points with the current system?""How does that affect your company?""Have you attempted to solve this before?"The point of discovery is to uncover problems and pain points. Not to talk about facts you could have found on the internet. The deeper you dig, the more the prospect will feel listened to.This will also help with attunement and clarity for the next call. Share ♻️ to champion better discovery techniques. What are your go-to discovery questions? 👇
