Christmas is such a fun time to give gifts to those we love. That’s why for Day 9 of our Christmas Craft Kickoff 2022 we’ll be making Christmas gift boxes. These boxes are simple to make and are the perfect size for gifting cookies, other sweet treats, or small gifts this holiday season.

I’ve made three designs for you, including one you can personalize with the recipient’s name. Everyone will surely love these cute little boxes (but maybe not quite as much as they’ll love what’s inside!)

Step 1: Download the SVG File and Upload it to Design Space

For help downloading SVG Files and uploading them to Design Space see this post.

The free SVG file for the Christmas Gift Boxes has expired. You can still grab it as our all-access pass for the kickoff event or it will be available to purchase individually once the event is over.

Or Grab the all-access pass here and get instant access all 14 projects, 25+ SVG Files, step-by-step videos, and printable instructions.

Once your design has been added to the canvas, ungroup it from the top of the layers menu. There is a light blue square in your design. This is to cut the vellum or acetate to line the cutout on the top of your box. If you don’t want to use a liner, delete this layer.

There is only one square in the SVG file. If you plan to make more than one box, you’ll need to duplicate the square.

As we look through the rest of the layers, you’ll also see that the back layer is gray. This is the base of the box. You’ll want to match this layer to be the same color as the top box design that you’re making.

I’ve also only included one bottom layer in the file, so again, if you’re making more than one box, duplicate this layer.

Step 2: Personalize the Top of the Holiday Gift Box

The dark blue layer will have the shape of an ornament on it. You can leave the design as it is, or you can personalize it by adding a name between the horizontal lines.

To do this, add a text box and type out the name you’ll be using. Change the font from the top menu. Remember, using a chunkier font will prevent the name from tearing when the box is cut.

Drag the text to sit between the lines on the ornament, then resize it so it touches the top and bottom line.

Select the text and the box layer and use the Align menu to center your text. With both layers still selected, Weld the design from the bottom of the layers menu. If your Design Space has already updated, you will first need to click ‘Combine’ and then ‘Weld’.

OOPS!

Although I had perforation lines added to this design, using the Weld function erases them. You can either add score lines back into your design manually, or you can choose to cut the design without perforation or score lines and use a ruler or your scraper tool to help fold the tabs later.

Step 3: Cut the Christmas Gift Boxes

When you’re finished personalizing your design, click ‘Make it’. There’s nothing you need to do on the mat screen. Click ‘Continue’. Select cardstock on your Explore dial or from the Maker materials list.

Don’t forget to change your material setting to vellum or acetate to cut the box liner!

Place the cardstock onto your mat, put the mat into your Cricut and press the flashing green ‘C’ button to load the mat.

To remove your designs from the mat, flip it over and peel the mat away from the cardstock to prevent curling or tearing.

Step 4: Assemble the Christmas Gift Box

To begin assembling the gift boxes, glue the acetate or vellum sheet to the inside of the box, over the cutout design.

Fold along each of the perforation lines, bringing each tab in toward the middle of the box.

Next, place glue on the smaller tabs, and press it to the adjacent side flap.

Repeat this process for the bottom of the box.

Step 5: Add Treats to the Gift Boxes

Now all that’s left is adding treats to the box and closing the lid.

I hope you loved making these super simple gift boxes and I hope you love giving them away and putting smiles on the faces of everyone you give them to!
