Inspired on the Bantha Milk served at Stars Wars Galaxy’s Edge attraction at Walt Disney world we created our own version using natural ingredients including the blue color that makes this blue milkshake.

The color of the blue Bantha milk served at Disney is a blue-purple shade but since we used non-artificial blue dye the shade we accomplished is on the blue-greenish side. Nonetheless, this is a tasty mocktail recipe to wow Wookies and Jedis alike.

What are the secret ingredients needed for the Blue Milkshake?

The ingredients for the blue milkshake include almond milk (substitute for any other nut milk, rice or dairy if desired). Condensed milk, coconut and citron extracts, pineapple chunks, pink and yellow dragon fruit, and ice. For obtaining the blue color, we used butterfly pea flower concentrate.

The Bantha milk drink comes together fast and the taste is delicious. For a galactic look, we used star fruit and served on a bubble-like glass. The secret for a creamy texture is the use of a high-performance blender. Those that make fabulous smoothies and crush the ice to achieve a snowy texture.

But what is Blue or Bantha Milk?

On true Star Wars style, this milk debut was in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The scene has Luke’s aunt serving him some while at home in Tatooine but while the editing this scene got caught.

The blue milk per the storyline comes from the Bantha cow. A domesticated mammal with spiral horns alike real-life bighorn sheep and a giant yak. The milky beverage kept coming up on the forthcoming sequels.

But don’t confuse the Bantha milk with the green. If you recall, the green milk is what Luke Skywalker drinks on the latest movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

You can see him milking a Thala-Siren on Ahch-To in front of Rey. And then take a big gulp of it. Causing surprise to many seeing a hermit version of Luke living in the mountains and feeding on Thala-Siren’s milk.

How do the Blue and Green Milk taste like?

Due to the launch of the new Stars Wars attraction at Walt Disney World, Imagineers included a Milk Stand as part of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge dining experiences.

There you can buy both, the blue milk and the green milk. But there is alcoholic versions available with rum and tequila for the adult Jedis in the family.

The blue milk flavor for us tasted like a piña colada with floral watermelon notes. And the green milk has a citrusy tropical flavor. Some say they use orange blossom, tangerine, and citrus elements.

Since the drinks use rice milk both have a chalky finish. The reason why we used almond milk and condensed milk on our Blue Milkshake recipe for a creamier taste. Optional, you can add rum or use coconut milk and sweeten coconut instead of almond milk and or condensed milk.

This recipe is super easy to make and you can drink for breakfast or as a snack. Or why not add it to a Stars Wars themed party. We like to buy fresh pineapple and cut it into chunks, Then freeze for later enjoyment. But you can use commercial frozen pineapple. If you cannot find the butterfly pea flower concentrate for adding blue color use commercial edible dye.
